Social Media Catch-22 – I Don’t Know the Answer. Do You?

Ok all you savvy business social media users out there, please help me out with this riddle. Social media etiquette says – “Don’t be on social media trying to sell your products. It’s called social for a reason! No one is out there to be sold to.”

So, for example, if I own a carpet cleaning business, did I just commit a big party foul when I tweeted you about a special I’m running on carpet cleaning this month?

It would seem like I have??? But then if I can’t tell you about the special I’m running this month, what’s the point in me, a business owner, being out here in social media land???? I’ve certainly got more productive things I can be doing with my time!

Don’t I????

As I wrote in the title, I really don’t have the answer. I welcome your feedback, opinions, rants.
